Our History
Our journey began with a vision to create mattresses that offer the perfect balance of comfort, support, and durability. Over the years, we have grown into a full-fledged bedding solutions provider, catering to the needs of both residential and commercial clients.

1931
At the height of the Great Depression, Abe Krupsaw founded the original manufacturing plant, American Bedding in Washington, DC.

1937
Dave Krupsaw, a Harvard Law Graduate, takes over business at the death of his father.

1940
Became a Serta licensee. Wholesale distribution grew throughout the late ‘40s & ’50s beyond floor covering to include TV, room air conditioners.

1950
Abe Bannett was recruited into the floor covering department.

1960
Brothers-in-law Sy Wolf & Tom Privot succeeded at the death of Dave Krupsaw. AW took on distribution of Sony Consumer Electronics for the next 29 years.

1967
Moved the company to a much larger plant in suburban Maryland.

1989
Refocus on bedding, closure of most wholesale distribution lines.

1990
Re-shifted focus back to mattress manufacturing. Acquired the rights to the Sleepwell trademark.

2022
Acquired the rights to the Silentnight trademark.

2023
Acquired the rights to the Highclere trademark.
Shifting Focus to Mattress Manufacturing
After decades of successful service, AW Industries shifted its full focus to mattress manufacturing in the early 1990’s.
A fourth generation of family ownership had acquired the rights to the Sleepwell trademark, proudly continuing its legacy of quality products, top-notch and renowned customer service, and the most affordable and technologically current mattress and bedding designs available.
Now located in Landover, Maryland, AW Industries currently employs 200+ dedicated workers and continues to provide quality sleep products and services through a trusted network of retailer clients.
